Because my buddy Todd cannot make it to TechEd this summer, I am delivering the REST/LINQ talk for him. Complete details on all talks are available in the Session Catalog.

Are you attending TechEd in June? I'll be there presenting the following breakout session:
Developing Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Solutions with Claims Authentication as well as working in the learning center.
SharePoint has built-in user authorization so that a site owner can specify what access particular users have to resources. Authentication is the identification of who the user is and this is provided by other software external to SharePoint such as Active Directory. There are many authorization and authentication requirements in custom solutions and this session helps to explain the technology landscape for developers. Topics include Authorization by Claims Authentication, Anonymous Access and Blog Commenting, ASP.NET Membership Provider, and Live ID Authentication.
Be sure to stop by and say hello!

A few days after my buddy Ben Curry talks about ECM, we are taking a road trip to Ann Arbor, MI to present at SharePoint Saturday. I will be presenting on PowerShell for the SharePoint Developer: PowerShell is the new administrative environment and scripting language for Microsoft's server products. It provides tremendous benefits to developers as well. This session will show how to leverage PowerShell to understand the SharePoint API; how to use PowerShell to manage development and QA environments and how to create helpful (and efficient) scripts for general use. Registration is open. I hope I see you there!

While I wish that I needed to circle the globe to do so, I am presenting for the Global SharePoint Users Group next week. This is a virtual group, organized by Eric Harlan (@ericharlan) when he is not planning ski trips. I will talking about Powershell for the SharePoint Developer. While Powershell is not new, it is new to most SharePoint folks. Registration is required to get the Live Meeting information.

I’m delighted to be returning to San Antonio after 20 years (I attended the COMMON Conference, for those of you who remember the System/36). The event this time is the San Antonio SharePoint Users Group. Tom Resing (@resing) has been patient enough to facilitate this trip. I’ll be presenting on Elevated Privileges with updated demos on SharePoint Foundation 2010. I hope to see you there! Registration is now open. I’m a bit sad that I’ll miss Amanda and Shane. :(

Last week, while at the conference, I was lucky to be a part of the virtual user group Week3.org. Virgil Carroll (@vman916) interviewed me early in the week so that I could be part of the group at the same time as my talk. You can view the video of Andrew Woodward (@andrewwoody), Brett Lonsdale (@brettlonsdale) and yours truly to learn about the new features of SharePoint 2010 with excellent commentary by Virgil and Andrew.

I’m sure that many of you have heard and read a lot about the SharePoint Conference and SharePoint 2010. I just want to post a quick note about the session that I co-presented with Todd Bleeker. First, we’ve posted the code and slides on Todd’s blog: http://Sharepoint.mindsharpblogs.com/Todd/SPC. Please note that we built the program on an early version of SharePoint 2010. When the beta bits are released in November, please do not be surprised if some of the code does not work. We intend to update the code and will make sure that it gets posted once that is complete. Second, I want to thank all of you who gave us such good reviews. The compliments in the evaluation notes, and the hallway and the exhibit hall are much appreciated. You are all so very nice. Lastly, thank you to Todd for inviting me to work with him. To be on the biggest stage at the biggest event for the biggest selling product for the biggest software company was a thrill I will remember for a long time.

For over a year, Rob Foster, Brett Lonsdale and Nick Swan have been recording their podcast, the SharePoint Pod Show. I’m honored to be the latest guest discussing Code Access Security. I was trading emails with Brett about the Lightning Tools Data Viewer Web Part and Brett asked a question arose about Code Access Security. We both lamented how most developers don’t understand the concept and how many don’t even bother to look into it. While I don’t think that I will change the habits of SharePoint developers, I did have fun doing the interview! I promised during the show that I would post a link to a very helpful article by Jonas Nilsson of Bamboo Solutions. (Thanks Jonas!)

After circling the country (New York, Washington, Virginia, Atlanta, San Francisco), SharePoint Saturday is coming to the best city in the country – Chicago!
Thanks to the work of Kris Wagner and Michael (Mr. Saturday) Lotter, SPS Chicago will be held in beautiful downtown Chicago. Minutes from shopping (the Mag Mile, State Street). Minutes from nature (Millennium Park, Grant Park, Navy Pier). Minutes from sports (Blackhawks [probably going all the way!], White Sox) and most importantly, minutes from dozens of locations for SharePint. :)
SharePoint Saturday – Chicago will be held June 13th at Tribune Tower (435 N Michigan Ave). Registration is now open. The speaker lineup is impressive: Darrin Bishop (MVP), Todd Bleeker(MVP), Rob Bogue (MVP), Matt Bremer, George Durzi, Chris Geier, Becky Isserman, Todd Klindt (MVP), Leonard Mwangi (MVP), Steve Pietrek, Asif Rehmani (MVP), and more!
I hope to see you there!

Dux Raymond Sy, the organizer of SharePoint Saturday DC, is hosting a charitable raffle. Donate canned goods at the event (or ship them to him ahead of time) and the top 20 donors will receive one hour with a speaker. I’m one of the speakers, so be sure to bring a development question!
I’ll be doing a pre-event webcast. Look for it on the site next week.
