Once again, I'm packing my bags for the flight to the US. This time it's the SharePoint Best Practices Conference, 24 th – 27 th August, at the Hyatt Regency Reston Hotel in Washington, DC - over 120 sessions, 4 tracks, 4 post-conference workshops and 60+ speakers. It's definitely one to attend.
It's the first time I've been to a US Best Practices Conference and the first time in Washington, DC, so I'm really looking forward to it. I can't wait to meet up with so many friends and colleagues. I'll be presenting two sessions:
If you can't make, follow: Twitter hash is #BPC2010 and I've also seen #BPC10 used too. There is also going to be live blogging.

I'm presenting a session on Thursday 8th July 2010 at Nottingham. I'm giving the first session of a series of three that Mark Macrae is planning on Workflows. This first session is "back to basics". I'll briefly look at the out-of-the-box workflows that come with SharePoint Server 2007 and then how to use SharePoint Designer 2007 for building workflow solutions - pros/cons. The second session starts at 20:10 when Andrew Woodward will talk about Automated UI Testing. There will be a break following first session when BBQ and drinks will be served.
I have some SWAG that I've brought back from TechEd 2010, North America, to give away, so make sure you attend.

I'm packing my bags and getting ready to fly to TechEd North America 2010. This year it's in New Orleans: 7th to 10th June. It's not my first time to visit New Orleans. I was there in February 2000 for the Microsoft Technical Trainer's Conference and then again in October 2003 for the Microsoft World Wide Partner Conference. But it has been a while, and I'm really looking forward to it.
Also, on the Sunday, there are two Microsoft Certification 101 sessions, where you can learn about selecting a certification path, preparing for your exams, and all the benefits of becoming an MCP; and two TechEd 101 sessions, where you can learn how to take advantage of everything that is going on during the 5-days.

Well it looks like spring is here in the UK. It's a brilliant day today, blue skies and the sun is wonderfully warm – well at least by UK standards – and it looks like I'm not only one to like April (my birthday is this month). It's going to be an amazing month for SharePoint 2010 as well. SharePoint 2010 will RTM this month, with a launch date of May 12th. So there are a whole series of events that are occurring in the UK this April to celebrate, including:
- Microsoft Tech Days, where on the 13th April, I'll be co-hosting the third session of the "Office 2010 – the next wave" day, with Viral Tarpara titled, "Overview and What's New for SharePoint 2010 for IT Pros". The event is in London, it's a free event and is completely sold out, but you can add yourself to the waiting list. Join the conversations on twitter @uktechdays and tweet with #uktechdays.
-
Later that evening, there are official fringe events at cinemas near you. There's going to be a short DVD outlining the key features of the new Microsoft offerings then a private screening of the Easter blockbuster movie – Clash of the Titans 2010!!, sign up quick, spaces are limited, so register using the following links:
I'll be at the Nottingham event. Other fringe events can be found on the UK Tech Days registration page.
-
There's a large number of sessions, (you can download the schedule straight to Outlook), an Exhibitor evening reception, a SharePint evening at the Old Star Pub, a Conference Party night and a post conference DVD containing the recordings of the sessions. The speakers list is just awe inspiring – it's a Who's Who of the SharePoint world, and I'm lucky to be presenting three sessions:
- IW102 What's New with SharePoint Designer 2010, Day 1, April 19th: 11:00 – 12:00
- IW207 SharePoint and Access: Better together, Day 2, April 20th: 10.00 – 11.00
- IT109 Windows PowerShell for SharePoint 2010, Day 2, April 20th: 14:00 – 15:00
Join the conversations on twitter, tweet with #spevo, and join the Facebook group.
There will also be a London SharePoint 2010 Community Launch Party on May 12.

I’m presenting SharePoint 2010 sessions at the Swedish SharePoint & Exchange Forum (SEF2009), and at SharePoint Evolution Conference. (Beta 2 of SharePoint 2010 will be available this month, so make sure your register to get a copy). The sessions I am presenting at the two conferences are :
Swedish SharePoint & Exchange Conference 2009
Day 1: 16th November 2009
11:00-12:00 "SharePoint 2010 workflows without code" – Best Practices Track: Workflow in SharePoint 2010 has been revamped. The new SharePoint Designer 2010 can build reusable workflows as well as site and list based workflows. In this session we’ll cover the workflows built into SharePoint 2010 as well as how to build new and reuse workflows, the integration with Visio, and how to prototype workflows in SharePoint Designer for further development in Visual Studio 2010. More information on SharePoint Designer can be found at the following links:
Day 2: 17th November 2009
11:00-12:00 "SharePoint 2010 and Access 2010 – Better together" – SharePoint Nerd Track: Access has always been a great landing pad for data. Last year I did a presentation at the SEF event showing how well Access and SharePoint worked well together. Now the story is even better, so this session follows on the story. Access 2010 includes new performance improvement when connecting to SharePoint lists. In this session I’ll cover these as well as other improvements, such as, connecting to Business Connectivity Services (BCS) data and using Access Services. If you can’t attend SEF, then you can find out more about Access and SharePoint at the following links:
13:00-14:00 "Administrating SharePoint 2010 with PowerShell 2.0" – Best Practices Track: In this session you’ll see how to use PowerShell to administer SharePoint 2010. We’ll cover some basic PowerShell commands and then jump into showing how to do day to day administrating of SharePoint 2010 with PowerShell. Useful PowerShell and SharePoint 2010 links are:
-
-
If you’ve still using CTP3 of PowerShell 2.0, then you really need to use the RTM version which can be obtain from links on Microsoft KB968929 page, make sure you upgrade to the WinRM RTM version at the same time. (The RTM versions of PowerShell 2.0 and WinRM are automatically included in Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2.)

SharePoint Evolution Conference
More information of the two session I’ll be presenting will be detailed on this blog nearer the date. Of course by April 2010, I’ll know much more about SharePoint 2010 than I do now and I’m really looking forward to this conference. It’s at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference centre, which is where the European SharePoint Best Practice 2009 conference was held. That conference was a sell-out and I expect that the Evolution conference will also sell out, so don’t leave it too late until your register.
